It’s been a while and for that I apologize, but wanted to stop in and talk about securing your accounts, because well the hacking of accounts over the last year or so hasn’t gone down, it’s trending up. One of the easiest ways to protect yourself is by enabling 2FA, Two Factor Authentication.
Two Factor Authentication is a security process in which users provide two different authentication factors to verify themselves. So for example, you log in with your password, then you enter a code you receive to your phone or email. This adds another layer of security to your account. Most platforms/websites have this feature, how to enable it may vary from site to site.
Another thing you may come across as an option when enabling two-factor authentication is using a token. This software (there’s also hardware options but those are phasing out) will generate a code for a site or application that changes every 60 seconds. You’d provide this code as the secondary means to log into your account. The best part about it being software or “soft” token is that you can’t loose it. Hence why the physical tokens are going away.
It takes just a few minutes to setup 2FA on your accounts if nothing else start with your social media accounts as I see a lot of people losing access or being hacked.
Here’s how for a few sites below:
And you can also enable this functionality on your WordPress site, there’s a couple of plugins, that help facilitate this, check them out here It’s sometimes annoying to have to do that extra step but it’s that or you could lose your account, it happens a lot. Do you use Two Factor Authentication…if not what are you waiting on?
